Our Mission

Susana Barraro tutors a peer in Spanish coursework

...is to enhance student success at Appalachian by:

  • identifying cultural and institutional conditions that influence student academic achievement
  • identifying, recommending, and assessing best practices
  • communicating these strategies to the Appalachian community.
The success and persistence of our students is a campus-wide responsibility. Retention and graduation are performance indicators and an index of our effectiveness in teaching and assisting in the personal development of our students. At Appalachian, there is a top level adminstrative commitment for retaining students who undertake a course of study here. We have award winning special programs and services for our entering students. In addition, we have services designed to enhance learning and the college experience for honor students, student athletes, under-prepared and under-represented students. Our Office of Institutional Research collects and shares assessment data with our campus community and statewide via our University System.
